FAFSA/Scholarships

FAFSA 

  • Create your FSA ID: Both the student and a parent need their own separate FSA ID accounts at StudentAid.gov
  • Allow up to three days for FSA ID verification.

Why It Matters

Completing the FAFSA opens the door to grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and other financial aid opportunities for college, career, or technical training.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The Recipient must:
     1. Be a graduate during the 2025-2026 academic year 
     2. Attended Van Gorder Elementary School for at least 2 years
     3. Provide a copy of the current unofficial high school transcript
     4. Include complete responses to the prompts below

Presidential 1776 Scholarship Award:

This is open to 9th-12th grade students and is a national civics competition celebrating America’s “semiquincentennial.” After two rounds of local and regional finals, the top four students from each region move on to the national final, held in Washington, D.C., in June 2026, where three winners will receive scholarships totaling $250,000. From February to June 2026, students will compete in three rounds of multiple-choice and short-answer verbal examinations. Karen Bosch Memorial Scholarship:

This scholarship is only for former students of Robert Mitchell and Marvin Moss Elementary School.  The application opens February 1st. Students interested in applying should submit their materials by February 28th using this link https://www.kboschscholarship.com. If anyone has questions, email apply@kboschscholarship.com

Nevada Millennium Scholarship

For the Millennium Scholarship, there is no application process for traditional students that graduate from a Nevada public, private or charter high school. Students qualify by meeting the eligibility requirements listed below. High schools and school districts submit student information for those who have qualified upon high school graduation.

Students will be eligible when all the following conditions are met:

  • Graduate with a Nevada high school diploma
  • Earn at least a 3.25 GPA (weighted or unweighted) or a qualifying test score of 1070 on the SAT or 21 on the ACT. ACT super scores are not accepted. Only composite scores from a single test date will be considered.
  • Complete the following core curriculum: 4 units in English, 4 units in Math (including Algebra II or higher), 3 units in Science, 3 units in Social Science or History
  • Be a Nevada resident for at least two years of their high school career
  • All requirements must be met by the date of high school graduation.

Nevada Promise Scholarship Application DUE at 11:59pm on October 31, 2025

The NV Promise Scholarship is open to ALL seniors who would like to attend a Nevada (in state) Community College. Please click the link below to be sent to your specific community college's website to apply. This scholarship is not based on GPA or income. All students can receive up to 3 years paid tuition at the community college whether you major in a college subject or trade program.
